It has been a crazy crazy few weeks here in October. I feel like I was just saying how odd it is that we’re starting this month and now we're ending it!! But this has truly been one of the craziest months I can remember, and has held some really awesome and really hard times.
Then Friday we tried out Nourish, this awesome vegan cafe on California street, which if you go, you HAVE to try their toast sampler!!! Then we ended the night with dinner in the Marina with my parents and Sara's boyfriend Eric who came in the next day.
Friday night my friend Jackie came into town with her roommates and crashed at my apartment after a concert. Then Saturday was full the Ferry Building Farmers Market (my favorite thing to do in SF), going to my Delta Zeta family reception (shoutout to Susan for planning such a nice event!), and meeting friend for dinner, all the while quizzing me for my psych test Monday.
And we hit up Bob's 24 hr Donuts late Saturday night where Jackie got the giant 1ft radius donut that make all of her sugar-holic dreams come true. Sunday I worked and tried frantically to study my butt off. But the weekends was well worth it for the fun time with friends.
Monday I even snuck in a quick visit home after my midterm to catch up with Sara and Eric for another night and of course cuddle my puppy!
The next week was supposed to be a bit of a break for me, but Wednesday morning I got a call from my mom saying my Grandpa (who had gone to Sacramento to spend time with my Aunt) had a heart attack and was being rushed to the hospital. Chris and I drove straight to Sacramento to meet my parents, my Grandma, my Aunt and Uncle, and my sister. Unfortunately too much damage had been done and we spent the rest of the afternoon and night saying goodbye and taking him off life support. It was a horribly hard day but I am still so grateful to be given the chance to be there and support my family and say goodbye.
I headed off to Fall break in Alabama Friday a little emotionally raw, quite unprepared, and really in need of some time with my best friend. Thankfully everything following that went smoothly and Maddie Ham being the light of my life she is really cheered me up and showed me a great time in Tuscaloosa! She gave me a tour of the school, and the strip as they call their downtown. We went out to dinner with her friends and littles (shoutout lilnicky and razzlezazzle) and I got to experience a real college game day, even though it was an away game.
AND I got to experience a real greek row and even got a tour of the Alabama DZ house where I geeked out and took a ton of photos obviously.
I also got a little taste of fall with all the leaves changing and even though it was 85 degrees I was in love. I was sad to leave Alabama and even sadder to leave maddie but I had to get back to real life.
Well since I returned from Fall break on a Tuesday, I really only had Wednesday and Thursday before I flew out of town again. But those days were jam packed with visiting the pumpkin patch with my DZ sisters, fitting in a few visits with friends and doing a thousand errands and lots of homework. Thursday we had Dodgeball with DZ, this year's philanthropy event which was way fun. Then Chris and I caught the red eye to Buffalo for the funeral.
Our weekend in Buffalo was brief and full of emotions. I was so glad to be there but it was so hard at the same time. My Grandpa was a really amazing man. He grew up in the Great Depression and really learned how to work hard. He left law school to join the Marines so he could serve our country and afford to finish school after. He was married to my Grandma for 61 years and that relationship produced 5 kids and 12 grandkids. He was funny and smart, and loving and we will all miss him very much. We participated in the wake, the funeral, the marine salute, and a big reception, and by the end of the weekend I was sleep deprived, emotionally drained, and getting sick. But nothing will replace getting to be there with every one of my family members to remember and mourn together. Love you all!!
Chris and I headed back to SF for another full week. I unfortunately really caught a cold in Buffalo. This past week has been a whirlwind of homework, class, DZ activities and lots and lots of dayquil. I sadly had to cancel my Halloween trip to San Luis Obispo because I just needed a few days to get back on my feet after it felt like life had really given me a good push.
And I'm glad to say I had the best weekend relaxing and taking a mental breath and I feel like myself again. Now we are headed into Big-Little week for DZ and I cannot wait to add to my cute little fam! I'm ending this month quite differently than expected, but I am truly so grateful for my family and my amazing friends, thank you to all those who supported me this month, you know who you are, xoxo
